Summary/Abstract: This historical narrative presents the political role of military ministers in Bulgaria during the period 1879-1885. The Bulgarian system of government returned into Bulgarian hands when the Temporary Russian Rule finished. A perimeter for Russia became the presence of its generals in the Bulgarian army and the Military Ministry, which was headed by Russian generals. Usually Russian ministers, such as generals Parensov, Krilov, Kaulbars and Kantakusin, here general Ernrot was an exception, left the country after conflicts with the Bulgarian monarch, Prince Aleksandar. They were, however, high ranking Russian generals who proved themselves in battlefields and universities. They also supported Bulgaria to establish the foundations of its army. The conflict between them and Prince Aleksandar was generated by the lack of synchrony in the relations between Russia and the Bulgarian monarch who had to lead and use the Bulgarian army. This competition had a diplomatic palate and intrigues. Moreover, it had a negative reflection on Russian-Bulgarian relations and provoked a domestic political crisis, which lasted about ten years.
