Summary/Abstract: The article presents the results of empirical studies into the way, in which students of lower classes understand the notion of creativity and beauty in art. The analysis of the results enables to formulate the statement that children grasp creativity in a manner that is superficial and inadequate, by identifying it, above all, with making objects that are pretty and useful. Students have difficulties articulating the meaning of the notion of beauty, which they associate with the features of the surrounding environment and with nature. The author of the article presents proposals of shaping students’ language as an important element of aesthetic education.
