Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with the comparative analysis of Japanese and Serbian avant- garde magazines: Mawo (Tokyo), Red and Black (Tokyo), Putevi/Roads (Belgrade) and Svedocanstva/Testimonies (Belgrade), paying special attention to their programme, editorial policy and literary works, including the translated literature present in them. The paper discusses parallel phenomena in very distant literatures (both spatially and traditionally) like the Japanese and Serbian ones, but also the differences in the reception of European avant-garde movements in one and the other literature.
