Summary/Abstract: The culture of all ancient countries was characterized by, inter alia, the perception of family through the lens of significant goals – private and social ones – that were important to those cultures as well as to a specific circle. The presentation of selected classical civilization cultures (the ancient Hellas‑Greece, the Roman Empire as well as the beginnings of Christianity) shows the way, in which the image of this main social cell was shaped throughout the centuries as well as how the values significant for family and the perception of it – as a value – were shaped. It also depicts the participation of Christianity in consolidating family as a significant value and in forming its image based on the teachings popularized by it.
