Summary/Abstract: In the period between two world wars, Stanislav Krakov wrote travel-books from South Serbia in which he descended into a cultural, collective, historical and personal past. This region enchanted him because of the numerous mixings and intertwinings of civilizational layers, invaluable cultural monuments of all epochs, because of its “virginity" — natural beauty untouched by technological progress, as well as because of the decisive war events in which he himself participated. Manifold perspective from which the regions of South Serbia were viewed leads to the stylistic stratification. In the third part of his travel-book, the traveller visits the former world-war front; crossing of temporal perspectives causes the stratification in the type of narration. In “the present", the traveller-writer grieves about the forgotten and destroyed cultural treasure and the nameless war heroes from World War I whom history did not remember, and in “the past" the narrator — using his black-humour approach — presents the cruel war scenes without pathos.
