Summary/Abstract: By its innovativeness, experiments with the genre and symbolic possibilities of the fairy tale, Andersen’s literary work influences the establishment and broadening of the model of the author’s fairy tale, as well as its separation from the oral model. The paper views the relations between the fairy tales of H. Ch. Andersen and Grozdana Olujic, and studies the points of separation from the oral model towards the symbolic story: symbolization of characters, vertical structure, presenting of town as an infernal space, the path towards the realization of one’s life goal through self-questioning, the feeling of fear and alienation in the contemporary world, satirical image of the world, anti-fairy tale, reflections about the nature of art.
