Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with the writing of satirical press on King Milan M. Obrenovic IV (1854—1901). During his rule, the Serbian press flourished. It is specially the case with the satirical press: from Milan Obrenovic’s coming to the throne in 1868 till his death in 1901, 70 satirical newspapers were published in our capital. King Milan was their hero. It is believed that he, not only among the Serbian, but also the European rulers, was the king whom the satirical press attacked most while he held the throne. The image if King Milan, ’’taken” in a distorted mirror of the satirical press, usually both one-sided and negative, changes in our time: it becomes significantly more comprehensive and complex, and the recent Serbian historiography gave its considerable contribution to that change.
