DESANKA MAKSIMOVIĆ BETWEEN THE TRADITIONAL AND THE MODERN — EARLY PERIOD OF THE MISAO JOURNAL

Summary/Abstract: The period of Desanka Maksimovic’s most intensive cooperation with the newly established journal Misao, which is bordered by the publication of the first works in 1920 and the change of editorial board in 1922, and resulted with the appearance of the collection Poems in 1924 (and the three editions of Anthology of the Most Recent Lyrical Poems 1921 —1927), significantly determined the reception of her poetic work in the light of the struggle between the traditionalists and the modernists/avant-gardists. Traditional critics mostly saw Desanka’s poetry as an acceptable example of the poety of „the young”, while the more modern ones were hostile towards Maksimovic and almost systematically ignored her work.
