Summary/Abstract: Viewing hitory of literature as a part of cultural history of the Serbian nation, the author pointed to the relation between the prevailing state of mind in the period at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century and the literary trends and poetics of that time. This relation is extended and justified with the insights which, within this epoch, reveal the differences and similarities between European and Serbian literature.
