Summary/Abstract: The article shows the aims and the specific features of Khrushchev’s housing reform, based on the history of design of the residential area of Cheryomushky (Odesa). The reform introduced a number of significant changes in the system of mass housing construction, which brought about a major transformation of the construction industry. Also described here is the transformation of the typology of housing stock - from buildings of frame-panel structure to large-panel 5-storey residential buildings with small apartments for one family (“khrushchevka”). The specific features of the town planning of the Khrushchev era extensively predetermined the problems of urban development in post-Soviet Ukraine, which must be solved today.
