Summary/Abstract: The article analyses verbal valency and the structure of utterances in the early production (12–36 months) of a Czech speaking monolingual child. Despite the limits of a case study, the results indicate that the development is complex: many valency types seem to develop simultaneously and in an irregular speed; selected phenomena (pre-verbal and verbal components, constructions) seem to play more central role than others, and gestures and context have to be accounted for.
