Summary/Abstract: A “Dictionary of the Russian Dialects of Karelia and Adjacent Areas” was published at the turn of the centuries and has already gained wide recognition. It has become one of the leading centres of Petrozavodsk University dealing with dictionary composition. An additional volume of the dictionary is being put together at present. It has characteristic features of a composite dictionary. It aims to specify multiple data from other dialect dictionaries and sources. Accumulated information files are digitized in order to preserve existing information and make the use of collected materials easy to work with. A computer program for further research and generalization of lexical material collected for the last five hundred years was developed. The computer program helped to create a new type of the dictionary – computerized grammar definition dictionary of existing dialects. The dictionary will be instrumental in solving problems related to questions of semantics, morphemics, word formation, and morphology of dialect words. Therefore, the newly created computerized grammar definition dictionary of Russian dialects in Karelia is becoming a center of the new cluster of dialect dictionaries.
