Summary/Abstract: In this study, it is aimed to investigate the motifs of the Mary and Child from the Byzantine icons to present day with the examples of the evolution in the art historical process. It is possible to see the influence of the Byzantine icons, whose sources are based on the ancient civilizations, for many hundreds of years, in all the geographies spread by Christianity and artistic expressions of different periods. In this study, which mainly includes examples of painting arts, examples related to the subject were investigated through written and visual sources. This research has shown that this main motif, which has been repeating for many years, still exists, although not as much as it was before.
