Summary/Abstract: This paper analyses the poetic subject in the poetry of Serbian modernist poet Rastko Petrovic (1898-1949). The authors show that Petrović’s poetry is steeped in the mystique of the new, embodied in the idea of sensory enrichment and the metaphor of travel. Dedicated to enriching the existential dimension of sensing without the cognitive dimension of processing sensory impressions, Rastko Petrovic is not the poet of knowledge but the poet of experience. Travel, which he often writes with a capital T, is registered in Rastko poetry as a way to be constantly subjected to new sensory experiences. Finally, the paper shows how contemporary these positions sound in our times, when the ideas of continuity, symmetry, harmony and unity of consciousness have been replaced by ideas of discontinuity, asymmetry, disharmony and fragmentation.
