CONSTRUCTION AND DECONSTRUCTION OF REALITY IN JUDITA ŠALGO’S NOVELS

Author(s): Dragana Beleslijin
Subject(s): Serbian Literature, Theory of Literature
Published by: Матица српска
Keywords: Judita Šlago; Noe-avantgarde and postmodernism;

Summary/Abstract: Taking into consideration the particularities of neo-avantgarde and postmodernism as frameworks of Judita Šalgo’s work, the paper deals with the fictionalization of documentary and literary material in her novels (Trag kočenja, Put u Birobidžan, Kraj puta), as well as the correspondence of the novels with real facts and their modifications in literature. Besides the personality of her father, Aleksandar Manhajm, she also fictionalized the poet Nenad Mitrov, who became one of the protagonists of the novel Put u Birobidžan. This universalized his personal tragedy and, on the other hand, it introduced the topic of Birobidžan into the novel, as a Jewish utopia and a weak subject whose quest for identity is doubly absurd: as an unrealized lust of love and as an abuse by a fascist interrogator.
