Summary/Abstract: The quest to digitalize and measure all phenomena has become the dominant motive of current phase of capitalism. It has considerable implications for the understanding of human body. With the development of wearable technologies, it becomes yet another site open for capitalist value-extraction. Apart from being potentially empowering for an individual, wearable technologies provide novel ways for exploitation and control. In this article, the tendency to avail oneself to measuring one’s life and body processes, accompanied by the idea that all life flows are susceptible to quantification, would be called the mining of the self. The paper aims to probe into the objectives and ideological underpinnings governing the use of wearable technologies and investigate how particular truths and regulative convictions become woven into the fabric of everyday life and naturalized.
