Summary/Abstract: In 1876 in Olomouc, the literary magazine Koleda, with the subtitle Čtení pro náš lid (Reading for our people) started its publication. In its day it was one of the twenty periodicals in Moravia issued in Czech. The importance of the Koleda is in the fact that it was the only literary magazine, even though the artistic level of its content only exceptionally exceeded the period average. The magazine was issued three times a month. As its founder is usually acknowledged the regionalist and man of letters, professor of the Slavonic Gymnasium in Olomouc, Jan Havelka, but there is no real evidence of this. Undoubtedly the most important editor, however, was František Bayer (1853–1925), teache, journalist and writer, whose personal archive has to these days been a source of important information on the cultural endeavours in Moravia and the Olomouc region at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s. The archive is deposited in the Literary Section of the Regional Museum in Olomouc.
