GEOMETRICAL IMAGES OF TOPICAL MODELS

Summary/Abstract: The inseparableness of characters and topics of epic poems is visually represented in geometrical schemes of topical models. Every epic topic corresponds to a planimetric figure whose vertices are formed by protagonists and whose sides describe their relationships. Simple, monocircular topics of motive poems, depending on the number of protagonists and their interactions, correspond to open, partially open and closed geometrical images that vary in length up to hexagons. The majority of topical models are represented by a triangle whose two vertices correspond to the hero and the anti-hero, while the third vertex is occupied by the authority, assistant, wanted person or victim. Each more complicated image is formed by the analogical addition of the same geometrical patterns, i.e. by the extension of the simpler figures which thus gain the status of structural formulae. Simultaneously, this confirms the domination of the analogical principle in the harmonious construction and the aesthetics of the beautiful.
