Summary/Abstract: The text presents a community which inhabits a region on the frontier of Republic of Macedonia and Republic of Albania. In Bulgaria there is no data or any kind of research on this particular population in Albania. Even though it does not belong to Bulgaria as a territory, the population defines itself mainly as „Bulgarian” and is part of the Bulgarian community in the Balkans, as a matter of fact it is its westernmost part. The interest on the part of Bulgaria was activated in the early 1990s following the democratic changes in both Bulgaria and Albania. The text presents the community (the region and the villages); the identity (as „Bulgarian” („bugari”, „bugartsi”), in some cases as „Macedonian”); the traditional calendar (the Christian and the Muslim traditional holidays); the music (the traditional song and the instrumental music); the songs (in ritual, holiday or everyday context).
