ON THE RHETORICAL TECHNIQUE OF ANDOCIDES

Summary/Abstract: In this paper, we have tried to prove that Andocides has a rightful place in the Canon of the Ten Attic Orators by analyzing his rhetorical skills and enumerating the techniques and figures of speech he used. As an orator, Andocides showed a steady improvement over time, so that his last oration was also the most stylistically perfect. We also pointed to the impact of pre-sophistic rhetoric on Andocides, portraying him as a faithful representative of the Attic language and the Attic authentic prose style of the cultural and historical time that eventually disappeared with our rhetorician.
