Summary/Abstract: The article offers accent to the limitations in front of the traditional Balkan societies to be involved in the national culture. These limitations grow from the German model for realization of the idea for nation. It follows different stages of the Bulgarian nation formation process. It demonstrates contemporary forms for ethnic communities participation – Armenians, Jews, Turks, in the national cultural process. The city as a diversities’ mirror is also peculiar fi eld for dialogue among different cultures. Here the place for traditional “Others” is not reserved only for them – they should compete to global diversities and challenges.
