Summary/Abstract: Bearing in mind the fact that a 450-year-anniversary of the birth of the greatest English Renaissance bard, William Shakespeare, is celebrated in 2014, the paper is dedicated to the examination of the contemporary aspects of his plays, particularly his history play Henry V. In the character of Shakespeare’s Henry V, an ambiguous binary opposition between the national hero and crafty manipulator is detected, especially in Henry’s justification of the English territorial aspirations towards France at the beginning of 15th century.
