Summary/Abstract: In the scope of this paper, the aim is to compare various specialities of the East and West cultures by comparing two artworks which were produced in the same time period. The comparison, in this sense, involves highlighting several differences and similarities between a painting and a miniature and thereby to analyze the understanding of the figure and the space in these artworks. Thus, the image of the space in painting and miniature arts can give the quality of space perception in the East and West cultures. In the article, Nakkaş Osman’s miniature named “The acceptance of Safevid ambassador Şahkulu Han” and Hans Holbein’s oil painting named “Ambassadors” are compared with each other in terms of space perception. Especially the discussion of two different artworks which share the similar subject as the acceptance of ambassadors, can clarify the subject with regard to the time period, content and space.
