Summary/Abstract: It has been inevitable for design not to nourish from art, for art creating this much exciting aesthetic experience. Most of the textile designs fabricated lately have been sourcing art. The first quarter of the 20th century is an era where artistic change and new formations reach to vast speeds. Revolution, which happened in France in 1789, has resulted in new ideas and innovatşve approaches in arts. The equipments and materials manufactured by the industry has provided many privillieges to the artist. However, these are not the only motives that created today’s modern art. The greatest motive is the reaction that the artist shows towards bizarre living styles and the values prospered after the Industrial Revolution. The aim of this research is to investigate the art movements of the 20th century being a critical period of human history and to employ the chosen art movement in textile design as a source of inspiration. In this study, modernist abstraction movement De Stijl has been chosen. The method of the research is Case Study, four distinctive paintings of Mondrian are studied in order to constrict the scope and investigate deeply. The theme of the collection is defined as Tango and prepared with the synthesis derived from the analysis of Neoplastisism and Mondrian’s chosen four paintings. The collection making steps and the findings are discussed in the conclusion part.
