Summary/Abstract: Pottery was one of the most ancient craftsmanships known in Nakhchivan. This essay deals with ancient potttery production in the Nakhchivan. As the other regions of Azerbaijan, Nakhchivan was also an important historical center of craftsmanship. The pottery products differ from each other in terms of their size, shape, ornaments, used material and technologies. The Nakhchivan potteries are divided into two groups as welfare and kitchen ceramics. Studies show that geometric, plant-shaped, zoomorphic and anthropomorphic patterns were used in their ornaments. They are of both simple and complex compozition. Those ornaments are widespread in some other lands, too, apart from Azerbaijan. They have both local characteristics and similarities with other cultures. The presence of similar ornaments in other cultures proves that people from different regions had some ties in their religious-ideological views, and that the ornaments have deep meanings.
