Summary/Abstract: This study aimed to explore the proficiency of music and elementary teacher candidates in regards to educational music repertoire. The participants (N=99) were 3rd (n=43) and 4th year (n=23) students studying at the Elementary Education Department (n=66), and 3rd (n=16) and 4th year (n=17) students studying at the Music Education Department (n=33) of Gaziosmanpaşa University. The Proficiency of Education Music Questionnaire, which was developed by the researcher, was used to identify the participants’ proficiency in regards to repertoire of educational music, and a personal information form was employed for demographic characteristics. As a result of the study, it was observed the competencies of the music teacher candidates in regards to educational music repertoire were high level whereas the competencies of elementary teacher candidates were observed low level. Due to the results of the research, several recommendations have been given to improve the proficiency of educational music repertoire of elementary teacher candidates alongside various suggestions for making music lessons effectively.
