Summary/Abstract: On the basis of concrete examples from Bulgarian phraseology the present study seeks the manifestations of the category of gender on the linguistic level and investigates the response of the language to the changes that occur in the public views on gender as a socio-cultural construction. The study is based on methods elaborated by semantic and cognitive linguistic theories. The collation of the results of our linguistic analysis with the results from other investigations, for instance anthropological, historiographical, and other research, gives us ground to suppose that the Bulgarians belong to a wider community of nations that have similar views of the world.
