Internationalization Patterns of high-tech Family Firms. Research Results

Summary/Abstract: During the last decade, family businesses have been an increasingly important research area. However, various research findings still differ on how internationalization of family firms may proceed differently than in the case of non-family firms. Despite the growing number of studies on family firm internationalization, it still remainsa young field of inquiry seeking for consistent framework. Various studies focus on different dimensions of family firm internationalization, including eg. internationalization process, family firm heterogeneity or network perspective. The article includes both the literature review and the results of a survey conducted among 263 high-tech production firms from Poland, including 101 family firms. The main objective of the article is to present internationalization patterns of family firms, and in its empirical part, internationalization intensity and pace in particular. Then, the statistical analysis is carried out.The key distinguishing feature of high-tech enterprise from traditional one (low-tech) is the amount of expenditure on research and development (R&D). In the summary of the article, the future directions of research are pointed out.
