Summary/Abstract: Dutch post-impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh has an important place in modern painting history. Van Gogh, from a modern formalist perspective, has turned to a mystical direction. Thus, the expressionist painting concept has begun to feel itself in the modern picture. This study aimed to examine the relationship between Vincent Van Gogh and modern painting. For this purpose, the relevant literature was first searched; Secondly, the modern painting is mentioned. Modern paintership based on the effort to visualize reality in a general sense is an image of thought in this context. However, two main draws are distinguished: the case trends and the expressionist trends. Impressionism is the most important thing from the case studies. Impressionism is the complexity of images and pictorial imagery when they exist. Expressive currents form distortions and abstraction and image with a mystical sensibility. Thirdly, after referring to the modern painting, Van Gogh and his understanding of painting are mentioned. Van Gogh modern painting; are among the most important of the painters who pass from the first period to the second mystical idealist period.
