Summary/Abstract: The article “Rilke’s Perception of the Arts” aims to outline the position of the significant modern poet in the context of the artistic tendencies of his time (early 20th century). Besides the complex “classic modernism”, other artistic movements played a part in his artistic development (expressionism, new objectivity). In the early stages of his creative life, he focused on “the melody of things”, later he was most interested in the fine arts (Rodin, Cézanne) and his program was to describe “things in space” (“poems-things”). Finally he returns to music as the “language of languages.” Rilke’s searching and his way are according to the article symptomatic for the development of 20th century art.
