Summary/Abstract: The fact that the Calcaneus bone has a resistant structure, it is frequently found at the excavation sites because of its durable structure. In this study, by using the Calcaneus bone and metric properties, gender and height calculations are made as well as calculations of the facet types through nonmetric examinations. The aim of this study is to metrically estimate the gender and height properties of the Calcaneus bones of individuals at Midyat Aktaş area whose demographic informations are unknown (Gender, Age, Height etc.) and to classify the articular facet types by using nonmetric examinations. The 66 materials that are used in the study have been obtained from the excavation site led by the Museum of Mardin in 2013. The remains have been brought to Mardin Artuklu University osteology laboratory and the studies of cleaning had been done. For the height and width calculations, both left and right sides were used and the calculations were made by using a digital caliper. For the nonmetric classification, the classifications that Gupta and her friends have developed and Compos and Pellico’s classifications were evaluated separately. In conclusion, for estimations of gender, by using the arithmetic means of 54 maximum Calcaneus bones an estimation of 26 males and 28 females has been made. In terms of estimations of height, we applied the formula developed by Holland, the average height of male individuals is 174,14 +-5,03 cm and the average height of female individuals is 161,56+-3,6 cm. In nonmetric findings, it is observed that when the studies of Compos and Pellico is applied to 65 Calcaneus bones, most frequent type is type B, in intersexual evaluation, the most frequent the in males are A3 and B2 and among females the most frequent type is B. When the classification developed by Gupta and her friends is applied to the study, the most frequent type resulted as type 1. Among males and females the most frequent type is concluded as type 1. Lastly, it is determined that the metric and nonmetric studies on the Calcaneus bone has a significant place in studies of identification.
