Summary/Abstract: In the article are examined the two positions on Roman law - understood as a purely historical science or perceived as a key for interpreting of the modern legal changes. This largely autocratic movement is presented at the level of academical teaching in the law faculties and in the concepts of the textbooks. It has, as a second academic plan, the discussion of the issue of the usefulness of teaching the legal history.
