Summary/Abstract: Through the analysis of Krzysztof Zanussi's films Death of the Provincial (1966) and Life as a Fatal Sexually Transmitted Disease (2000), the author of this paper is looking for the answer to a question about whether media images of death may incorporate sacrum? The first part of the article explains, steaming from the Bible and tradition of the Christianity, the understanding of the human death as sacrum which has its roots in the Christian culture. Next, the author presents in a synthetic way Krzysztof Zanussi’s director profile, who in his work often took up thanatological issues. Subsequently are analyzed the films Death of the Provincial and Life as a Fatal Sexually Transmitted Disease. The author proves that they are examples of sacral presentation of human death in films, because by showing its most important transcendental dimension indicate the greatest hope of the Christian faith ‒ eternal life.
