Summary/Abstract: Throughout the history of the Ottoman Empire associating appearance with dreams, people living in the regions under its control saw many dreams but few of them have survived up to now. Most of these dreams are related to prominent figures in the history. Some of them were selected as they explained a phenomenon considered to be important by traditions and recurred with slight changes throughout the history. Some of them were not seen in fact but exploited to explain the points that could not be explained by historians in their works. In spite of all their uncertainties and the possible risks of looking at the history on the basis of dreams, it is clear that this risk is worth being taken to open a new window to historical events. The purpose of the current study is to investigate the dreams occupying an important place in the lives of people living in former periods and to reveal the repercussions of the events experienced by them in their external world or events occurring independent of them in their inner world. The resources employed in the current study are various records of dreams kept in official documents of the state elicited as a result of the works conducted in the Prime Minister’s Ottoman Archive and some travelogues and chronicles.
