Summary/Abstract: Said Halim Pasha, one of the important figures of Islamist thought in Turkey, has deeply analyzed the subject of Westernization and the reasons of the decline of the Islamic world and revealed original ideas. Pasha attributes to the decline of the Islamic world to pre-Islamic traditions of Muslim nations to a large extent. According to Pasha, the religion of Islam contains all the basics that Muslims need for progress. But, Muslim nations, misinterpreting their religion under the influence of pre-Islamic traditions, have moved away from Islamic principles and truths and for this reason they could not progress. Pasha, who interpreted the Westernization movements as a second deviation from Islam, recommends Islamization, in the sense of returning to Islamic principles and truths, and to abandon pre-Islamic traditions and Western imitation to Muslim nations for progress. In this article, Said Halim Pasha's thoughts about the reasons of the decline of the Islamic world and Turkish Islam have been analyzed with a problematic approach.
