Summary/Abstract: The article considers interdisciplinary aspects of the definition of «graphic», in relation to the theory and practice of graphic design, identifies the semantic meaning of the definition in graphic design, fine arts, in the exact sciences, in linguistics, in computer technology and other spheres of human activity, substantiated the importance of understanding of these differences for the design issues of the contemporary visual language.
