Summary/Abstract: The article outlines historic development of the first practical knowledge and skills in working with documents in an office, archive, library, court. The interdependence between getting intensive qualitative knowledge on the documents and practical areas of their use is confirmed. Preconditions for specific knowledge development within the classic triad of sciences: history – philosophy – philology is revealed.
