Summary/Abstract: It is not possible to lead pupils to lifelong learning and behaviour compatible with sustainable development without creating and shaping pupils' scientific attitudes towards reality. In this context, we examined the transfer of the content of biological education at elementary school to the biology textbook for the fifth grade. We have analysed the potential of text, pictorial material, questions and tasks in the textbook to build, shape and develop pupils' scientific attitudes, namely the attitudes of pupils to science, scientists, scientific work, science, nature and living organisms. We used the results of the analysis to formulate specific recommendations for pedagogical practice, textbooks and school documents makers. Building the above-mentioned attitudes, promoting and developing pupils' natural curiosity, respect for facts and critical reflection is, in our opinion, an effective activating and motivating factor for pupils to learn biology and to increase their interest in natural sciences.
