Summary/Abstract: Given the long-standing opinion that the Cold War was basically a political and ideological confrontation between the Soviet Union and the United States, it might be expected that Britain would have downgraded its interest in Bulgaria or the Balkans, in general. Yet, documentary evidence suggests the contrary: the Foreign Office constantly and closely observed and analyzed the political, economic, cultural, social and historical specificities of Bulgaria. London was particularly interested in its relations with the Soviet Union, the Kremlin’s influence in the country and the endless Bulgarian problems with its neighbors.
