Summary/Abstract: In this article, the author provides an insight into a personalistic interpretation of the phenomenon of labour, proposed by French philosophers-personalists at the time of exacerbated economic crisis of the 1930-s in France. The author substantiates a view that Mounier, Maritain and Lacroix considered the possibilities of a new, personal civilization understanding the civilizational nature of the Great Depression, which was historically pervasive, and well aware that it was one of the most powerful manifestations of the anthropological crisis, caused by the decline of industrial civilization built on vulgar materialism and a belief that economic motivation determines human existence. Philosophers-personalists suggest considering economy from the standpoint of spiritual values, and labour as an effective force of the spirit, through which the spirit is realized in life.
