The Concept of “Remembrance” in the Eucharistic Prayers as a Source of Christian Commitment

Summary/Abstract: The concept of “remembrance” is present in the Eucharistic Prayers. It conveys a richness that emerges from both Sacred Scripture and the manner in which the Church fulfils Jesus’ directive to “do this in remembrance of me” (Lk 22:19(b); 1.Cor 11:24,25) in its Liturgy. This richness became a starting point for the article’s reflection on the manner in which anamnesis translates into Christian personhood, both at a personal and community level. Anamnesis gives source to spiritual worship (Rm 12:1). This study focuses on the interaction between “remembrance” and spiritual worship (of Christ and Church), between “remembrance” and ‘koinonia’, between “remembrance” and ‘diakonia’, and between “remembrance” and mission.
