Summary/Abstract: In this paper, we will primarily deal with a specific cultural and linguistic situation in the Serbian linguistic area, considering the occurrence of the so-called social femininatives and their use in everyday and official speech, taking into account general characteristics of the grammatical category of gender in our language. Current speech/linguistic practice in media and books (fiction books, textbooks), as well as the official attitudes of eminent linguists concerning this issue have also been considered.
