Summary/Abstract: The writing reviews four recently published German pieces reflecting on Marx’s oeuvre. The relevance of the topic is justified with the fact that after the global financial crisis of 2008-2009 there has been an emerging Marxist discussion: the four reviewed books attempt to join into this discussion with picking up and analyzing certain elements of the theories of Marx. The commentary of Michael Quante, published in the newest edition of the Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts, discusses the critical social theory of the early Marx. Michael Heinrich focuses mainly on the economic analyses of the late Marx, while Fritz Reheis reflects on the issues of social inequalities, crisis and alienation through actualizing the Marxist concepts. Alienation is an important topic for Gisela Notz as well, though she uses the notion specifically to discuss the possibility of alternative economic practices. Although the reviewed books are important contributions to the Marxist literature, none of them tries to reinterpret the Marxian theory in its totality.
