Summary/Abstract: The article considers the phenomenon of the Soviet intelligentsia in the context of cultural catastrophes of Russia in the XX century. Development of the intelligentsia is investigated within a political regime. Analyzed is the influence on the fate of the country and the intelligentsia of such distinctive features of the mode as the mass and random repressions which are the control device over consciousness and behavior of the subject.
