Summary/Abstract: The paper tackles Greek diminutives which are only formally derivedwords while semantically hey are separate lexical units representing a new class of denotation different from that of non-diminutive words. Тhe features of diminution are outlined, among which that of similarity is most common. The paper presents an overview of the semantic content of lexicalized diminutives and the form of diminutive suffixes. The model of the French linguist Danielle Corbin is used as a framework for the analysis as applied in the derivation process in Modern Greek.
