Summary/Abstract: The subject of the social economy is invariably an up-to-date and clear issue, which is an interest not only in domestic but also in European social policy. Social economy is an effective tool for activating local communities and combating social exclusion, especially for economically weaker regions at risk of poverty. The purpose of this article is to show its essence, functions and the most important entities that influence the needs of groups susceptible to social marginalization. For the purposes of the article, available literature on the subject, websites and legal acts, which form the basis for the analyzed subject.
