Summary/Abstract: Bruno Schulz referred to Józef Piłsudski in three essays: “Powstają legendy” [How Legends Come into Being], “Wolność tragiczna” [Tragic Freedom], and “Pod Belwederem” [Near Belweder], but before they were written the author must have come across Piłsudski’s name on many occasions. Ogonowska chose out of them those which were, in her opinion, the most important as elements of the formative experience of Schulz’s generation and determined his attitude toward the Marshall. On the other hand, she demonstrates how Schulz could not fail to transgress the paradigm characteristic of Piłsudski’s official cult.
