Summary/Abstract: The paper was based on quantitative research on recall referendums regarding the executive of community and cities in years 2006–2017. The research was concluded in february 2017 and referendums taking place after that date were not included. The author presented a number of issues related to recall referendums of the executive of local communities and cities in Poland. One of the points was an attempt to answer the question whether the turnout of participants in referendums decreased in recent years. There are many indicators suggesting that this is the case, however, access to information on local referendums is challenging, especially in smaller communities. Another point under consideration was if local referendums are a tool used for political struggle between local electoral committees. Is it really an attempt to increase the participation of citizens in their local communities or rather a way of disposing of an opponent on local political stage? The last of the issues was an endeavor to establish what factors influence the decision if an referendal initiative should be taken (by citizens and by local community or city council) and what affects the effectiveness (validity) of local referendums. The author relied on statistical and comparative analysis.
