Summary/Abstract: The article explores the dynamics of family-oriented rituals still preserved or memorized in the Bulgarian diaspora in South Bessarabia. The author argues that the multi-ethnic society helps preserve segments of traditional culture related to childbirth and funerals as part of the national identity.
