Summary/Abstract: The Civil Code brings back into the scenery of Romanian law, the institution of engagement. The present article proposes analyzing the evolution of the engagement among the diverse regulations of our law, the legal nature of the engagement, the ground conditions requested for its conclusion, as well as the impediments at the conclusion of the engagement. Therewith, it also shows what are the effects to breaking the engagement, both regarding the restitution of the gifts, and regarding the responsibility for abusively breaking the engagement.
